The Technical SEO Officer will lead a focused program of work to improve Urban List’s technical SEO foundations and strengthen off-page performance across all markets. This contract role exists to accelerate fixes to legacy issues, implement scalable systems for ongoing optimisation,
and surface new opportunities to increase organic search visibility.


Working alongside Urban List’s SEO Specialist and development partner (Newism), this role will support the delivery of key SEO roadmap initiatives through the use of SEO tools and collaboration across teams.

The main responsibilities of a TECHNICAL SEO OFFICER include:

Technical SEO Implementation and Monitoring

  • Identify and resolve broken internal and external links to improve site health and user experience.
  • Set up ongoing broken link monitoring systems to surface issues (e.g. closed venues) that require editorial or technical intervention.
  • Identify structured data opportunities and prepare schema markup recommendations to support developers in implementation and testing.
  • Audit and improve internal linking structures, recommending opportunities to strengthen connections across Urban List’s content both manually and automated solutions.
  • Monitor Core Web Vitals and Page Speed metrics, surfacing site experience issues across high-priority templates.
  • Review sitemap configuration and flag potential issues to ensure optimal crawlability and
    indexation.

Off-page SEO Research and Outreach

  • Conduct backlink gap analysis to identify authoritative domains linking to competitors but not Urban List and create a prioritised list of backlink opportunities mapped by market.
  • Discover new link acquisition opportunities (e.g. venues and industry organisations) and compile a city-by-city prospecting list for the editorial and partnerships teams.
  • Monitor the web for unlinked brand mentions of Urban List and flag high-value mentions for potential follow-up.
  • Prepare a verified Wikidata entry and draft a compliant Wikipedia page for Urban List, liaising with internal stakeholders to ensure accuracy and alignment with brand identity.
  • Conduct direct outreach to request backlinks or social amplification, with guidance and templates provided by the editorial teams.
  • Track outreach and report on backlinks secured, feeding insights into broader SEO reporting with SEO Specialist.

SEO Content Auditing

  • Conduct a site-wide content audit to identify low- or zero-trafficpages and flag for update, consolidation, or removal.
  • Feed audit insights into editorial planning and long-term SEO strategy development.

To apply, you must be an expert on the following requirements:

  • Technical SEO Expertise – Proven experience identifying and resolving technical SEO issues, including broken links, structured data, internal linking, sitemap configuration, and site speed diagnostics.
  • SEO Tools Proficiency – Comfortable using platforms such as Semrush, Google Search Console, Google Analytics, Screaming Frog, and PageSpeed Insights for site audits and opportunity identification.
  • On-Page & O-Page SEO Knowledge – Strong understanding of how technical, content, and o-site SEO factors work together to drive organic visibility.
  • Content Audit & Analysis – Experience conducting large-scale content audits and providing actionable recommendations based on performance metrics.
  • Backlink Analysis & Strategy – Familiarity with backlink audits, competitor gap analysis, and identifying credible backlink opportunities; experience supporting link-building eorts is a plus.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration – Demonstrated ability to work eectively with developers, content teams, and external partners to implement technical recommendations.
  • Communication Skills – Ability to clearly communicate technical findings and solutions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Clear copy of your Birth Certificate (PSA or NSO)
